How to specify an LED video wall in Dubai

DigiComm’s reference is not a lobby ribbon. It is the 820-panel LG OLED wall we installed above Dubai Aquarium in 2017 for Emaar Entertainment: 1.7 billion pixels, 52 Dataton WATCHPAX 4 servers, night-shift installation in a live mall. The lessons travel down to a 4-metre corporate wall.

Questions that belong in the first meeting

• Viewing distance and the closest a guest will stand.
• Ambient light — Dubai mall atriums and hotel façades wash out consumer panels.
• Content: who makes it, at what resolution, how often it changes.
• Service access, heat, and whether the wall can go dark at 02:00 for maintenance.
• Playback: BrightSign, Dataton, or a dedicated processor — decided before cabinets are ordered.

OLED vs LED

The aquarium wall used OLED because the curve, black level and panel format were the brief. Many current Dubai jobs are fine-pitch LED because content production and spare-module logistics are simpler. We specify the surface that matches the content budget and viewing conditions.
